Electrical engineers say the Kelanitissa Power Station will have to be shut down from tonight (12).

They attributed the move to the lack of naphtha fuel required to operate the plant continuously.

The National Grid will lose 165MW due to power station shutting down.

Joint Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Association Isuru Kasthuriratne said authorities have failed to respond to their requests for more naphtha fuel.
